On May 10th, 2025, the charming town of Whitchurch, Hampshire, will come alive with the Whitchurch Folk Festival, a vibrant, community-led event celebrating folk music, dance, and culture. From 9:00 AM to midnight, this spirited festival invites everyone to enjoy a day filled with world-class performances, interactive workshops, traditional dance displays, and a wealth of free activities for all ages.

A Festival with Heart

The Whitchurch Folk Festival is a revival of the beloved folk festivities that took place in the town from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, bringing together generations of locals and visitors for a truly special celebration. The modern iteration of this festival was sparked by the efforts of local folk musicians, Paul Sartin and Jon Wilks, who re-energised the Whitchurch Folk Club in 2017. Tragically, Paul’s passing in 2022 left a profound impact on the community, but in his honour, the festival was revived, with the first edition taking place in 2024.

Music, Dance, and More

This year’s festival promises to be just as exciting, with a full programme featuring some of the UK’s best folk musicians performing in intimate settings throughout the town. Tickets are available for the main concert programme, featuring well-known artists and exciting new talent. For those looking to enjoy the festival for free, there’s a fantastic fringe programme with local bands, community choirs, and pop-up performances.

Dance enthusiasts will be thrilled with the array of folk dance displays, from Morris dancing to traditional Hampshire step dancing. There will also be drop-in sessions and pop-up activities throughout the day, offering a chance for everyone to join in and have fun.

A Festival for All Ages

The Whitchurch Folk Festival isn’t just about music and dance – it’s also about family fun. Children and young people can enjoy free arts, crafts, and music activities, making it a great day out for families. The highlight of the day will be the traditional jack-in-the-green parade, featuring Morris dancers, local musicians, and stunningly crafted creatures celebrating the town’s rich cultural heritage.

Alongside the festivities, festival-goers can enjoy delicious local food and drink, as well as handmade crafts from local businesses, all adding to the lively atmosphere of the festival.
